Beneficiary Spotlight
Name: Dave Rausch
Regiment: Royal Military Police (RMP)
Rank: Staff Sergeant
Date joined: September 1978
Length of service: 30 Years
Why did you leave the military?: End of contract
How did your injury/illness occur?: Shot through my right arm whilst serving in Northern Ireland in 1981.
When and how did you hear about On Course Foundation?: By typing ‘injured Servicemen golf’ into Google. I have been an On Course Foundation beneficiary since 2014.
What was your golfing experience prior to joining On Course Foundation?: I played off a handicap of 24.
Your most memorable experience of On Course Foundation so far: Everything that On Course Foundation has done for me has been great. Overall it has been the excellent tuition I have received, not forgetting the unforgettable time in Menorca. With only a few people to coach for the week, Dai had more time to deal with each OCF member's needs and development. The practice facilities and the golf course were excellent and everyone I met was unbelievably helpful and generous with their time. It was a great team building event with all OCF attendees getting on great. I’m still pinching myself that it actually happened.
Your employment experience so far: I was able to obtain part time greenkeeping where I play at Wensleydale Golf Club, so I am very content with my current situation.
What do you hope to gain from On Course Foundation in the future?: Just now and again (subject to my work and responsibilities to my 'Club Senior Section'), to take part in some of the 1/3 day events, but I am always willing to give back to the Foundation, as and when I can.
ABOUT US
On Course Foundation continue to provide positive provision for wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and veterans - supporting their recovery and transition to civilian life through confidence building golf events and opportunities for employment in the golf industry.
As a sport, golf offers a unique platform where players of all skills and backgrounds can compete healthily, improving not only their physical but mental strength too. With many lacking self- belief, it’s our aim to help our beneficiaries realise their potential and set them on a fulfilling path.
Formed in 2010, we have seen first-hand that that participation in golf can have a profound positive effect on the rehabilitation of our beneficiaries.
