Ambassadors at On Course Foundation UK

Our Ambassadors

We are delighted to have the support of our Team of Ambassadors.

  • Nick Dougherty
    • ’'I love being an Ambassador for On Course Foundation because it uses one of the passions of my life - golf, to aid the recovery both physically and mentally injured Servicemen and women. They have given so much to protect us, now it’s our turn. Golf brings us together’’.

As a former European tour golfer, Nick turned professional in 2002 and quickly became recognised as a huge talent of the golfing world, going on to become ’Rookie of the Year’ and finishing 36th in the Order of Merit in his first season on the tour.

Nick landed his first European Tour victory in 2005 at the Caltex Masters in Singapore and went on to be listed in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings in the same year, finishing in 15th place on the final European Tour Order of Merit. Following this, Nick went on to lead the 107th US Open (2007) before finishing tied 7th. He secured a second European Tour victory in the very same year at the prestigious Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and finished 11th on the Order of Merit before going on to win his third tour victory in 2009 at the BMW International Open in Germany, which led to a place in The Open Championship.

Nick announced his retirement from the sport in September 2016 with his final tournament taking place at the home of Golf in St Andrews at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship', the home of his most popular tour win.

Prior to this he had created a world first for live golf coverage in 2015 when he wore a microphone during the British Masters tournament for Sky Sports. Keen to share his wealth of knowledge and passion for the game, Nick joined the Sky Sports broadcasting team in 2016 to work across their extensive coverage of Golf including US Masters, the Open Championship and Ryder Cup. His knowledge, warmth and engaging presentation style has led to him becoming a lead presenter across the network including hosting the Sky Sports ‘Sports Women of the Year’ awards in 2017.

  • Di Stewart
    • ‘’On Course Foundation is very close to my heart. To see such a dedicated and committed Foundation change lives through the power of sport is inspirational and to be part of such a special community feels like a privilege’’.

Di Stewart is a television presenter and broadcaster primarily working across Sky Sports and previously NBC’s ‘The Golf Channel’ in America.

With a television career that has spanned more than a decade, Di began her broadcasting career back in 2005 on Sky Sports News. She quickly become a familiar and much-loved face on the channel, conducting live interviews across a variety of sports on a daily basis.

It wasn’t long before Di was given the opportunity to work on the sport she is most passionate about, covering top level golf across the European Tour, PGA Tour and Major Championships, hosting and presenting live from all around the world.

It was her knowledge and hosting expertise that led to a career highlight in both 2010 at Celtic Manor and 2014 at Gleneagles, presenting the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the prestigious Ryder Cup in front of an audience in excess of 100 million people.

In addition to live sport, Di has also presented a number of high profile sport formats including ‘Golf Night’ and more recently ‘Game Changers’ on Sky Sports and Sky One with co-host and former Olympic Athlete Darren Campbell.

More recently, alongside her work across live Golf, Di has also become lead presenter for the Vitality Netball Superleague live on Sky Sports.

Alongside her TV commitments, Di is an accomplished and in demand corporate event host and conference MC, working with elite organisations including Boodles, Waitrose, M&C Saatchi, Valero, John Lewis and O2.

She has a focused passion for highlighting the difference that sport can make to the next generation and also works as an ambassador for ‘On Course Foundation’ and ‘Hope and Homes for Children’ Charity.

  • James Taylor
    • 'It's an honour to be an Ambassador of the On Course Foundation. It's great to spend time with some amazing people, playing a sport that has changed my life. I'm really looking forward to spending more time with the Foundation and getting to meet some more amazing and inspirational people''.

A first class cricketer who had appeared to have finally broken through at international level, James Taylor found his career cruelly curtailed at the age of 26 when he was diagnosed with an incurable heart condition. Having played 35 times for England from 2012-16 and captained Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, he played a full part in Englands's 2015-16 Test series win in South Africa, but just a few months later in the opening week of the County Championship, he was forced to retire with immediate effect due to Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC).

The opening sentences of his autobiography, Cut Short, illustrates the seriousness of this condition: ''By rights, I shouldn't be writing this book. I should have been found dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs. Or in the passenger seat of a car. Or on a cold wooden bench in a distant dressing room far from friends and family.''

His recovery from the attack, described by doctors as ''the equivalent of running six marathons'', has provided inspiration beyond the small world of sport - a batsman for whom ''survival'' is more than just a figurative description - but the life-long implications of his condition mean a shadow is constantly near.

Since his diagnosis James has moved on and much like the beneficiaries of On Course Foundation he has learned to live with his medical condition, understanding how to manage his body physically and how to cope mentally with the loss of the career he loved. A very driven individual, he is now working in commentary and in 2018 he was appointed as an England Selector having already been an ECB scout for emerging English talent.

Due to his condition James is unable to play most sports and took up golf during his recovery. He fell in love with the game and has quickly demonstrated that he has a talent - we shouldn't be suprised! He is a member of Notts (Holinwell) Golf Club and aspires to reduce his current 4.9 handicap as quickly as possible.

As well as being an Ambassador for the On Course Foundation, James is also an ambassador for the British Heart Foundation and Chance to Shine.

  • Chris Broad
    • Chris Broad is a former English cricketer and broadcaster who currently serves as an ICC cricket official. As an opening batsman, he played 26 Test matches for England and scored six centuries, together with 34 One Day International matches with a respectable over 40 average.

Broad is married to Rosemarie and has two children from his first marriage. Stuart, who followed in his fathers’ sporting footsteps and currently plays for Nottinghamshire and England and Gemma who is showing entrepreneurial tendencies by creating her own restoration business.

Broad's second wife, Miche, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in spring 2009. She took her own life the following year in July. Together with his children Stuart and Gemma, Broad established the charity "The Broad Appeal" in February 2011 to raise both awareness of and funds for MND.

  • Colin Montgomerie OBE

    • Colin Montgomerie is one of the most successful golfers in the history of the European Tour and is now enjoying further success on the Champions Tour in the United States.

His list of achievements are legendary with 31 European Tour and 7 Champions Tour victories that include three Senior “Majors” with two PGA Championships and one US Open victory.  He was leader of the European Tour Order of Merit on eight occasions including a seven-year consecutive period between 1993 and 1999.  An eight-time Ryder Cup player between 1991 and 2006, Colin has the accolade of never losing a singles match during this time and was appointed Ryder Cup team captain for the 2010 match at Celtic Manor where his side were victorious by 14½ to 13½.  He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013.

Following the passing of his mother to cancer in 1991, Colin set up the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation in her name to address the need for emotional and practical support for cancer patients and their families.  In partnership with Maggie’s, the Foundation looks to provide the cancer support that is vital for so many families and has established two new “Maggie’s Centers” in her name at Lanarkshire and Aberdeen.

In 2011 Colin visited Afghanistan spending four days at Camp Bastion giving golf lessons and donating equipment to troops and Afghan children helping to promote and encourage the take-up of the game in the country.

A “life-changing” experience was how Colin described his visit to Helmand Province and we are thrilled that one of golf’s greatest players has agreed to extend his association with the Armed Forces by becoming an ambassador to On Course Foundation.
  • Carly Booth

    • After an amateur career that included playing in the Junior Ryder Cups in both 2006 and 2008 and representing Great Britain & Ireland in the 2008 Curtis Cup match against the USA at St Andrews, Carly turned professional in 2009 and became the youngest Scottish golfer to qualify for the Ladies European Tour at the age of seventeen.

In 2012 she won her first professional title with a one shot victory in the Scottish Open at Archerfield Links and followed this with a playoff win at the Swiss Open a month later. Her third European Tour title came in 2019 when she claimed victory at the Czech Open.

Growing up in a sporting family, Carly’s father won a silver medal at the 1966 Commonwealth Games in Jamaica and her elder brother, Wallace is also a professional golfer.  With a younger brother who has competed and won medals in three Special Olympics, Carly has long held an interest in promoting disability sport and has served as an ambassador of the European Disabled Golf Association since the summer of 2020.

We are delighted that Carly has agreed to join On Course Foundation as an ambassador, providing the opportunity to further her passion for helping others and to promote how the game can benefit people of all abilities.
  • Paul McGinley
    • “Serving in the military is about teamwork and I am delighted to be bringing my experiences in this area to help the Foundation as the beneficiaries look to recover from their life-changing injuries through learning and playing the sport of golf as a group activity before embarking on individual careers within the industry.”

Having spent five years at college and University in Dublin and San Diego, prior to his career in golf, Paul has a degree in International Business and a diploma in Marketing. He has been a European Tour player now for over 25 years. Despite winning several tournaments and being a former top 20 ranked player in the world he is best known for his performances in team competitions. This led to many awards including being voted Coach of the year at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2014 and being made an Executive Fellow at London Business School, the first sportsman ever awarded this honour. He currently plays a limited golfing schedule on the Staysure Legends European Seniors Tour, spends much of his time broadcasting for SkySports, ambassadorial work representing his many business partners, golf course design as well sitting on the Board of the DP World Tour and Ryder Cup Executive Committee.
